Post Chemo Hair Extensions: Your Hair Gets to Come Back Too
Finishing chemotherapy is enormous. Everything your body has carried, everything you've pushed through — it's a milestone that deserves to be celebrated. And for so many women, one of the first things they want back is their hair.
That's not shallow. That's deeply human. Hair is tied to identity in ways that are hard to explain until you've lost it. We understand that, and we treat every post-chemo appointment with that in mind.
What Chemo Does to Hair — And What Comes Next
Chemo targets rapidly dividing cells, which is why hair loss happens during treatment. Once treatment ends, the follicles slowly wake back up. But the regrowth isn't always what you expect — many women experience "chemo curl," where hair comes back with a different texture than before. It's often finer, softer, and more fragile at first.
Regrowth typically starts within a few weeks of the final cycle. By three months, there's usually an inch or two. By six months, most clients have enough for a real extension conversation.
We don't rush that timeline. Coming in too early — before there's enough growth to properly anchor extensions — isn't something we'd ever recommend.
When You're Ready, Here's What We Do
Our go-to for post-chemo clients is microlinks — no heat, no glue, no chemicals touching a scalp that's already been through enough. We install conservatively at first, adding volume without overloading the new growth. Then at each maintenance appointment, as your hair strengthens and thickens, we build on it.
Most of our post-chemo clients reach their target look over 2 to 3 appointments across a few months. It's a journey, but a good one.
The Part That Means the Most to Us
We've had clients cry in our chair — not from anything going wrong, but from seeing themselves in the mirror with a full head of hair for the first time in months. Those are the moments that remind us why this work matters.
You've been through something hard. Let us help with the part we can actually help with. Book a free consultation at (212) 221-3881 or online — we'd be honored to be part of your comeback.
